Where can you get a pistol thats not imported?
I saw this on another forum and was wondering how you could get one.
Its my understanding they are not imported. Thanks E-A http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...tole_Kevin.jpg |
Re: Where can you get a pistol thats not imported?
The ZVI Kevin pistol looks like a nice dinky little thing. About 40% heavier than the Seecamp .380 in terms of weight (~14 oz unloaded, vs 10.5 for the Seecamp). Size is very similar.
That being said, a pistol that small may not have sufficient BATF "points" (assigned for size & features like target grips, safety, ...) to be legally imported. If you're serious about spending the money to import a pistol (or a dozen), you'll need to contact a licensed firearms importer. He could probably let you know if it's legally "doable", and what it would cost you. Importing a single (non-antique) firearm from Europe is expensive. One importer I'd trust (the only importer I know, actually) is Ken Buch. See his website at www.kebcollc.com . I've bought from Ken before, and he's a good guy. Doing some more Googling, showed this thread: http://handgunforum.net/showthread.php?p=146577 Apparently, it's imported/sold by Magnum Research as the Micro Desert Eagle, MSRP $535 or so. |
Re: Where can you get a pistol thats not imported?
For a minute I was very confused.
I am posting to clarify for anyone else who finds themselves in this English parsing predicament. The OP wants to procure a foreign pistol that does not get imported. It is very easy to misunderstand that the OP is trying to find a homegrown pistol that was never imported in the first place. |

[QUOTE=electric-amish;1476332]I saw this on another forum and was wondering how you could get one.
Its my understanding they are not imported. Thanks Why would you want one? Looks like a piece of stamped out scrap metal. Couldn't hit the same thing twice from 15 ft. Spend some money and get a good Springfield or the like. |
Re: Where can you get a pistol thats not imported?
FWIW, I'm not aware of a current Springfiled .380. There are older ones such as the Super S but they are BULKY. In fact, IME, all Springfield Arms are bulky for the caliber.
The pictured firearm looks like it could be concealed in the hand alone. It appears to have no safety and a hidden hammer meaning trigger pull is probably near 10lbs. This sort of gun wasn't meant to hit the same spot twice from 15ft. It is meant to put a hole in someone coming at you or holding you or to otherwise keep someone at distance while you escape. It also looks like the perfect gun to dump in a pinch. The .380s I have are fine pistols but sometimes I yearn for a junker that I can just throw under the car seat and could be tossed in the river with no regrets. This piece fits the bill. |
Re: Where can you get a pistol thats not imported?
Not speaking specifically about the Kevin ZVI but many of these small cheap pistols are nothing but junk.
Typically they won't feed reliably, have horrible trigger pull etc. Some have 10 pound trigger pull. While a small gun is better than no gun at all. If you pull the trigger and it goes click instead of bang you have put yourself in a bad situation. If you want small at least buy quality. |
Re: Where can you get a pistol thats not imported?
Kel-Tec made in Florida USA, good little pistols.

Re: Where can you get a pistol thats not imported?
My Springfield Mico 45 is pretty compact size wise. A little heavier than some, but when I pour a thousand rounds through it, it will last unlike the pot metal junk like that shown.

Re: Where can you get a pistol thats not imported?
I want the Name KEVIN on the pistol.
Will never probebly shoot it or even look at it as collectable. I want a pistol with the Name Kevin:rofl: E-A They are Euro shooter-- not imported into the US is my understanding. |

I have not even come close to "numismatic" (lol) interest in firearms. I keep myself plenty busy with the utility (bullion) I'm looking for. |
Re: Where can you get a pistol thats not imported?
If you are looking for the best US Made pocket pistol try the Rohrbaugh R9 or R9S in 9mm. I love mine.

my PM9 is somewhat new to me... but i hand cycled it probably 150-200 times before i ever shot it took it apart and checked it over and applied apropriate lube shot a couple of hundred FMJ's thru it (no issues) shot probably a hundred or so JHP's thru it this wkend (no issues) It is amazingly accurate for its size and it kicks less than my full size walther p99 i am suprizingly impressed with this lil gun |
Re: Where can you get a pistol thats not imported?
I paid $950 + Tax for the Rohrbaugh. It did cost twice what I paid for the Kahr. I'm not saying the PM9 is a bad pistol. I did like mine. I had an occasional jam here and there which was not that big of an issue I suppose. My main problem with mine was you could not baby it. I did not always carry with a round in the chamber and if I was to slip in the wrong situation that would be then end. If I released the slide without enough force I would have to pry the round back and drop the mag. This didn't happen every time, but it happened on a few occasions enough to make me not trust it 100%. I'd say 95% of the time or better I had no issues at all.
They are great accurate little pistols when all is working right. I have a friend that still owns one and he absolutely loves it. Both make excellent pocket pistols, although while they are similar in size the Rohrbaugh is a little smaller and slimmer also a little more contoured which makes it less noticeable while pocket carrying. |
